Voorheesville- Steven J. VanAlstyne, 55, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 at his home.

Steven was born on February 23, 1963, son of the Thomas VanAlstyne and the late Marilyn Nisselbeck.

He graduated from Voorheesville, HS Class of 1981. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a U.S. Navy Seal from 1981-1987. He served aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson SSBN in Charleston, VA, USS Thomas Jefferson SSN in Norfolk, VA, USS Coral Sea Aircraft Carrier, USS Frank Cable AS-40 in Norfolk, VA, USS Comte DeGrasse DD-974 in Norfolk, VA, and was deployed overseas to Lebanon/Beirut and Grenada. It was during his time in the Navy that he earned what would be his lifelong nickname, Breeze for his ability to carry on a conversation.

Steve owned and operated The Sign Guys after being honorably discharged from the Navy. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping with his family. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. Steve will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, he always had a story to tell, and could always make you laugh. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege to know and love him.

Steve is survived by his father, Thomas VanAlstyne; his brother, Michael VanAlstyne (Deborah); sister, Tracy VanAlstyne Bowers; nephew, Nicholas VanAlstyne (Patty); niece, Michelle VanAlstyne; special friend, Laurie Kot and many friends.

A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 7:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm prior to services.
