In Memory Of
Roberta W. "Brett" Scharf
1955 - 2018

GUILDERLAND-Roberta Brett Scharf, age 63, peacefully ended her battle with cancer Friday, November 9, 2018 with her two children, daughter in-law, and former husband by her side at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn.

Brett, or “Grandma Bean” as she was known by her two granddaughters, was born June 30, 1955 in Potsdam, NY to Beverly and Robert Washburn.

She was a 1974 graduate of Potsdam Central High School. In 1980 she married Robert Scharf in Las Vegas, NV. She resided in Calcium, NY for most of her life, where she began her career as an elderly and disabled health care aide. She moved to Albany in 2015 to be closer to her grandchildren.
She carried on the musical traditions of her family, as her father was a classical music composer, playing viola in the Albany Area Senior Orchestra and performing locally. Besides the orchestra, Brett was a devoted grandmother to her 3 year old granddaughter, Norah Corcione, and 1 year old granddaughter, Amara Corcione.

She enjoyed traveling, an interest she inherited from her parents. Brett traveled through much of Europe and collected ‘miniature’ knick-knacks as memoirs of her travels. She was a self-proclaimed amateur dancer and enjoyed making others around her laugh, and often join in, with her quirky dance moves, even as she battled cancer at St. Peter’s Nursing Home.

Brett had a heart of gold, always helping those around her, especially the elderly and physically disabled. She will be remembered by her family and friends for the playful twinkle in her eye and innocent giggle she so often had, finding joy in the little things in life.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Corcione and her husband Andy Corcione and their two daughters, Norah and Amara Corcione of Albany; her son, Eric Scharf and his wife, Bristin Scharf of Mesa, AZ and her brother, Brooks Washburn of Potsdam, NY.

The family will hold a private ceremony to honor Brett’s life, with no public services. The family is extremely grateful to Albany Community Hospice for all of their support and compassion.

Donations in her honor can be made to:
