Albany- Ms. Mary Nell Washington of Albany, New York entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospital Hospice Inn. The daughter of the late Minnie Watson and James McSwain. Ms. Mary was born on January 11, 1933 in Hartford, Alabama. She lived in Opelika, Alabama until moving to NYC in her mid twenties.

Ms. Mary was a homemaker and healthcare provider. She had a heart of gold, taking friends into her own home all while caring for her own 5 children. She would give her last to any of her children or grandchildren just to be sure they were ok. She was a mother/grandmother to all, even if they weren't family. She was a strong person with an amazing spirit, that held the family together. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have their own special memories. She made everyone feel like they were her favorite.

Ms. Mary received Christ as her personal savior in 1986 and was an active member of Faith Tabernacle. She became an usher as well. She worked for Pomonok Home Services in Flushing, NY before moving to Albany, NY in 2005. She attended and became a member of Greater St. John's COGIC.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son James Washington of Charlotte, North Carolina. Left to cherish memories are her children: Johnnie Mae and Patrick Washington, Yvette Blunt, Jamie Franklin; Son in laws: Reginald Blunt and John Franklin; her grandchildren; Tysheema and Corey Ligons Jr., Shanasia and Kaloni Franklin, Patricia Lewis, Daysha and Reginal Blunt Jr.; great-grandchildren: Ashanti and Corey Ligons III, Josiah Wortham, Kamiya'Lynn Davis and Ikarri Millar. Memories will also be cherished by a host of many friends.

The family of Mary Nell Washington wanted to take the time to thank everyone for their condolences and support offered. Whether it be gestures, prayers, conversations, gift of nourishment, flowers and cards. For these expressions we are forever grateful. May God Bless you all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A service will follow at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
