Donald M. Van Cott, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Peters Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Donald was the son of the late Alexander (Alec) and Margaret (Peg Eisenger) Van Cott.

Donald was the devoted husband of over 59 years to Joan (Clark) Van Cott.

Donald was born in Mount Vernon, NY, graduated from Portchester High School and attended the University of Connecticut. He was an active athlete excelling in football, basketball and track and field.

He worked for many years as an associate and mechanical designer for the Syracuse based architectural firm Sargent, Webster, Crenshaw and Folley. He was also owner of PACS, a construction management firm that constructed schools throughout New York State. In his final position, he relished in his role as Director of Advertising for Edible Capital District magazine.

Donald was a member of the Oneida Rotary Club, past President and member of the Oneida City Board of Education for many years, past Pop Warner President and Lector at St. Patricks Church in Oneida.

He loved being a father, coaching his children’s sports teams, and attending his children’s and grand children's events. He enjoyed a life-time of summer vacations on Cape Cod. Donald’s love of cooking, canning and gardening fed many throughout the years.

Donald is survived by his wife, Joan. He is the proud father of; Mary Alice (Joseph) Blair, Patrick (Lisa) Van Cott, John (Ben Iannitti) Van Cott, William (Rachel Lyons) Van Cott, Molly (Sean Sullivan) Van Cott, Margaret (Hakim) Jones and Daniel (Amy) Van Cott. He is the adored grandfather of; Elle (Zack Kundel) Van Cott, Taylor Van Cott, Nick Billingsley, Sean Van Cott, Melissa Van Cott, Riley Van Cott, Max Jones, Beatrice Jones, Donald Jones, Archie Jones, Ryan Van Cott, Amelia Lyons, Olivia Lyons and Alex Van Cott. He is also survived by his brother Peter (Susan) Van Cott.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
