Schenectady---Reverend Gerald Matthew Myers, 86, of Schenectady, New York went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2018. He was born February 29, 1932 on Asgaard Farm, in Jay, New York to Arthur and Marian (Mihill) Myers. His family moved to Wilmington, and then to Schenectady, New York, where he attended Nott Terrace High School, after which he met and married Lois Therrien. As a carpenter, some of the jobs he worked on include, the SUNY Albany campus, the Egg in downtown Albany, and Pineview Alliance Church. In 1976, he became a minister of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church through correspondence courses, while founding the Schoharie Valley Alliance Church in Middleburgh, New York. He also became a certified EMT with the Middleburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Jerry pastored in Middleburgh until 2006, when he retired, but then again, pastors don’t really retire. He served as pastor at the Carmen Road Alliance Church until 2012, when his grandson took over.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Jane Myers, his children, Kathy and son-in-law, Dick Forney of Middleburgh, Linda and son-in-law, Paul Hobson of Schenectady, and Mary Myers of Winter Park, Florida. A fourth daughter, Diane Lynn Myers, predeceased him. Survivors include two brothers, Reverend Donald Myers, in Schenectady and Gordon Myers, in Mt. Joy, PA, and two sisters, Charlotte Hallenbeck, in Middleburg, PA, and Virginia Jellison, of Alberquerque, NM. Survivors also include Martin Therrien of Rehobeth, MA, eight grandchildren and their spouses, along with 22 great grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Grandpa Great.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Carman Road Alliance Church, 3313 Carman Road, Schenectady, NY. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
