Schenectady- Richard “Dick” J. Bogdan, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Ellis Hospital, with his family by his side.

Dick was born on November 29, 1922, in Amsterdam, NY, to the late Charles and Frances Bogdan. He graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1940, continued his football career at Bluefield College, and then entered the Navy during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a Coxswain in 1946. After his service he completed his education in 1958 with a master’s degree in economics from Siena College.

Dick married Rita in 1948 and they lived in Schenectady, NY their entire lives. Rita passed away in 2008.

Dick is reunited with his loving wife, Rita, and their first born son, Ricky.

He is survived by his sons; Bill (Carl), Dan (Candie), his grandchildren; Chris, Courtney, Brittaney, and Chelsea, and his great-grandson, Jude Alexander.

Dick’s professional passion in life was education. He was an educator at Albany Business College, where he served as a Dean of Men, Athletic Director, and Vice President of Student Affairs. His passion for the students carried over to the basketball court as a coach, and to the golf course, as a nationally renowned club maker.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 1241 State St, Schenectady, NY 12304, on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 9:00am, with visitation at 8:30am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick’s name to the Food Pantry at St. Luke’s, or to Community Hospice, 1411 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12308
