Valley Stream- George Joseph Schery, 94, passed away August 26,2015. George was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen "Kay" DeBoer Schery (2010) for 65 years.

George was born in Brooklyn where he worked for Fairchild Publications before and after serving in the Navy in WWII. He started in the mailroom and worked his way up to the head Advertising Executive position at Fairchild. George grew up in the Lower East Side of New York City and was an avid baseball player and enjoyed speed ice skating and jumping barrels on skates as a kid in Central Park.

George and Kay lived in Brooklyn when they married and then moved from Brooklyn to Valley Stream in 1950. At retirement George and Kay moved to New Port Richey, Florida. They had a wonderful life together golfing, bowling, playing cards and throwing dinner parties with friends. They were also skilled ballroom dancers.
George is survived by his three daughters; Kathi S. Schery, Carol A. Schery, Marilyn E. O’Brien (Larry). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tucker, Christopher, Richard and Spencer Ruberti, Jeremy Bledsoe, Timothy and Katie O’Brien; as well as 10 great grandchildren.
George was predeceased by his sister Ruth.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to STRIDE INC. 476 North Greenbush Rd #9, Rensselaer, NY 12144.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, August 28th 2015 at 11:00AM at St. Paul the Apostle, 2777 Albany St, Schenectady, NY 12304. Burial will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
