Carol Stowe Long, 89, of Albany, New York, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 26, 2015. She was born in Auburn, New York, March 6, 1926.

Growing up in Weedsport, New York, Carol studied music in grade school and became a member of the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, playing second clarinet, at the age of 13.

Carol attended Bob Jones University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and later Greensville, South Carolina, graduating with a BA in 1948 and an MA in 1950. She met her husband, Dudley R. Long, while at Bob Jones University. They married in 1951 and moved to Albany in 1953 to found Peoples Baptist Church, in Colonie. Pastor Long predeceased her in 1994.

Along with her husband, Carol always was interested in mission work. She hosted many missionaries who came to Albany to share their burden for missions. Together with GS Nair the Longs were cofounders of The Fundamental Baptist Mission to India and the Peoples Baptist Ministries and instrumental in helping stabling more than 2,500 Churches in India.

Carol taught fifth grade in the Albany School System for 30 years. Besides being the Pastor’s wife, Carol was also the choir director and a Sunday School teacher. In September 2011, the City of Albany honored her with the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award.

She is survived by her nephews Bruce (Daphne) Stowe, Thomas Stowe, and Douglas (Sandy) Stowe, and a number of nieces and nephews, including Nancy (Mike) Goguen of Colonie, as well as a number of great nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Calvary Baptist Church, 12 Launfal Street, Albany, NY 12205 on Wednesday, July 1st, from 4pm-7pm. Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, Thursday, July 2nd at 11am. Interment will be held at Memory’s Garden, Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany. Arrangements by New Comer Funeral Home.
