Edeltraud Siemann Roach
1936 - 2015

COLONIE - Edeltraud Siemann Roach, 78, longtime resident of the Village of Colonie, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Edel was born on March 28, 1936 in Braunschweig, Germany to the late Otto and Alwine Siemann. She was raised and educated in Konigslutter, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1959 at the age of 23.

Edel retired from SUNY Albany in 1999 after a 33 year career which included working in the Patroon Room with her favorite team, the NY Giants. Her working career also included catering at the Governor's Mansion, meeting Governors, Presidents, and other dignitaries. Edel was a former president and lifetime member of the German American Club of Albany.

Edel had a true love for nature, animals, and birds. She was a fabulous gardener and knew the name of every flower! Edel was an avid reader and loved listening to German music and Patsy Cline. She had previously enjoyed bowling and square dancing. Edel was an outstanding cook and loved to feed her family and friends. She enjoyed fishing, treasured times at camp (Sacandaga Lake, Lake Champlain, and Schroon Lake). She had enjoyed traveling to the Cayman Islands, New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Colorado, California, and her homeland, Germany. Edel's favorite place was always her back deck in summertime on Delafield Drive with a cold beer, surrounded by her family, friends, birds, and flowers. She loved to dress up, enjoyed a good joke, and had a huge heart!

Edel is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Hildeburge E. Siemann, her brother, Ottchen Siemann, her father and mother-in-law, Willis and Roseanne Roach (who Edel thought of as a mother), dear friends, Diane, Gunther, and Marge. She is survived by her four loving sons, Joerg Rainer Siemann (Sherry Burgoon) of Voorheesville, NY, Michael Roach of Albany, NY, Frank (Liz) Roach of San Diego, CA, and William (Sherry) Roach of Cohoes, NY; and Oma to Katherine (Peter) Mercado, Robert Siemann, Bryan (Kelly) Siemann, Ronald Siemann, Kelly Rose Roach, and Michael Russell Roach; great Oma to Trevor and Lucas Siemann and Tyler Mercado; many many friends, and her kitty, Roosevelt.

A sincere thank you to the staff and nursing students on the 5th floor at Albany Memorial Hospital and The Community Hospice.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
