Albany- Violet Keleshian passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018 just a few days shy of her 95th birthday.

Born on May 23, 1923 in Aleppo, Syria, a daughter of the late Hagop and Elizabeth Hasserdjian Khachadourian. As a young woman, Violet moved to Bierut, Lebanon to attend the Lebanese American University. Shortly after college, she married her husband, Hagop Keleshian, and had three children. Hagop passed away in 1956 and Violet started her career as a home-economics teacher in Beirut. In 1961, Violet decided to make the move to the United States, and arrived on July 4, 1961. She became a U.S Citizen on December 1, 1966. Once in the United States, Violet took night classes to obtain her accounting degree. She went on to work for the NYS Tax and Finance Dept., where she became the Supervisor of the Bankruptcy Dept; she retired after 21 years in 1990. Violet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, she sang in their choir and played the violin.

Violet is survived by her children, Seta Smith (Timothy), Salpy Kalaidjian (kevork) and K. George Keleshian (Gail); grandchildren, Kelly Haslam (George), Ariana Smith (Wudbhav), Talin Sullivan (Mark), Tovah Keleshian, Kev Keleshian, Hagop Kalaidjian, Lara Holly (Alex); great-grandchildren, Spenser, Veronica, Ella, Isla, Kamran, Kiran, Aiden and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her sisters, Alice Shahinian & Djemileh Bazarbashian; brothers, Gayzag & Kachadour Khachadourian; two half-brothers, Harry & William Khachadourian.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 1pm at First Presbyterian Church, 362 State Street, Albany, 12210. Burial will be held at Albany Rural Cemetery.
