Colonie - Elizabeth "Liz" Slater, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, March 12, 2018. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Worthington and Margaret Stokes.

Liz was born in Brooklyn, NY and worked at BonWit Teller as a tailor; a home economics teacher in Brooklyn and retired from the NYS Mental Health Department, having lived most recently in Orange and Albany Counties.

She loved to travel and was avid at crocheting, donating many afghans thru RSVP of Orange and Albany Counties and giving many as gifts to family members. Liz was the recipient of many awards for her dedication as a volunteer; even receiving one from the NYS Assembly. She was a "crafty" person, who also enjoyed doing puzzles and participating in many card games and activities.

Liz is survived by her siblings, Margaret "Peg" Logan and Earl Stokes of Hawaii; her sister-in-law, Virginia Stokes; her special nephew, Robert Deming, and numerous other nieces, nephews and their families.

Liz was predeceased by her husband, John Slater; her siblings, Virginia Wood, Martha Tunstall, George, Herbert, Allen and William Stokes, Dorothy Ott, Patricia Deming Main and Priscilla Lent.

Liz will be missed by her dear friends at Beltrone.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at Capital Cardiology; Dr. Bashant and the staff of Colonie Senior Services Transportation for their dedication and kindness.

A Celebration of Liz's Life will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. A Memorial Service will be held following the Celebration at 1:30 pm

Donations may be made in Liz's memory to Colonie Senior Service Centers, Inc., Six Winners Circle, Colonie, NY 12205.
