Damon J. Mitchell
1967 - 2018

Green Island-Damon Mitchell, son of Sidney Mitchell and Sandy Baldon was born in the Bronx, NY on August 28, 1967. At the age of 5, Damon relocated to California with his father and stepmother, Carol. As a teenager, Damon returned to New York and lived with his grandmother, FreddieMae Mitchell, in Mount Vernon, NY.

In 2001, Damon moved to Albany, NY. It didn’t take long before the Lord began to knock at the door of his heart, and Damon felt an innate desire to go to church. The Lord placed three members from the Church of God of Prophecy in his life. One member, whom Damon met at a bus stop, invited him to a Bible study. From that day on, the brethren of the Men’s Ministry would visit Damon at his home. He became a frequent visitor to weekly church services. Within a year, Damon accepted the Lord as his Savior, was sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. He became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Albany, NY under the leadership of the late Bishop Calvin and Pastor Ruby Jones. Damon loved the Lord. He served in the church on the praise and worship team, the Sanctuary Choir, and altar worker. He also worked in the regional church camp ministry. Damon was active in the prison ministry. He was a mentor for many young men. Damon would share the word with anyone who would listen. He was known as “the Preacher” at his local barbershop.

Damon was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College. He was accepted into Siena College where he pursued a degree in marketing. However, health issues prevented him from completing degree requirements. Damon enjoyed cooking, and he was a great cook. He would make many of his Grandmother’s recipes but would never divulge the recipes to anyone.

Damon found the love of his life, Yvette McBean, sitting in the pews of the Church of God of Prophecy. They were married on July 26, 2003. Throughout their years together, they learned to trust God in every situation and to cleave to each other.

On February 22, 2018, Damon went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his beloved “Nana”, FreddieMae Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife, Yvette; father, Sidney (Carol) Mitchell; mother, Sandy Baldon; father-in-law, Rudolph McBean; mother-in law, Delores McBean; sisters, Kim and Shareen Mitchell; sister-in-law, Marcia McBean and a host of other relatives, church family and friends. Contributions in Damon's memory may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy.
