Guilderland- Thomas G. McFadden, 71, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 12, 2017. Born in Boise, Idaho on February 23, 1946, Tom was the son of the late Elmer and Anne (McDonell) McFadden.
Tom was a proud member of the Idaho State High School Debate Championship Team. He completed his undergraduate studies at the College of Idaho. Then was a Rhodes Scholar at Worcester College, Oxford University. He earned his Masters of Philosophy from Brown University and a Masters of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Tom held Librarian positions at Rochester Institute of Technology, Brown University, University of California, Davis, Northern Arizona University, 15 years as the College Librarian (Director of Schaffer Library) at Union College, and briefly served (in retirement) as Library Director at Union Graduate College.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years Marguerite “Maggie” Horn; nine sisters- and brothers-in-law; a host of nieces and nephews and a growing number of great nieces and nephews.
Tom’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Ami Negandhi and the caring people at St. Peter’s Cancer Center, The Eddy Visiting Nurse Association and Community Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
Memorial visitation will be from 3 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, December 19 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be private.
