Albany~

Gloria R. (Touchette) Maiello, 90, of Albany, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.


Gloria was born in Whitehall, NY and was the daughter of the late Albert and Bernadette (Dalton) Touchette of Whitehall, NY. For 68 years, she was the loving wife of the late Philip J. Maiello, who recently passed away on October 2, 2017.

A devout Roman Catholic, Gloria was formerly a member of Our Lady of Angels Parish prior to its closure and currently was a communicant of Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill in Albany. She was also a proud member of the Colonie Seniors where she especially enjoyed playing Bingo. Gloria also enjoyed spending time with her entire family, going out to dinner, vacationing, square-dancing. Gloria was an avid Yankees, Giants and Notre Dame fan. She and her husband Philip especially cherished attending their grandchildren's music concerts and sporting events together.

Gloria trained as a child care technician at the former Brady Maternity Hospital in 1946. Gloria loved working with children, especially newborns. After staying home to raise her family she returned to St. Catherine's Childcare Center and continued her career there for 17 years until retirement in 1986.

Gloria is survived by her children; Philip F. (Rosanne) Maiello, Gloria (Ernie) Casile, John A. Maiello, Thomas E. (Sonia) Maiello and Mary Anne (Joe) Volpe, her 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by two sister-in-laws; Bessie Reside and Jean Williams. Besides her parents and her husband, Gloria was predeceased by her brothers; Edgar Touchette, Frederick Touchette, Leonard Touchette, Laurence Touchette and Rev. Marc L. Touchette and sister Marguerite Evans.


Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road (Rt. 2) in Watervliet on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, November 22, from Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill, 10 Lodge Street in Albany, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will follow the mass in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Whitehall Skene Manor Preservation, Inc., 8 Potters Terrace, Whitehall, NY 12887.

For their kind and compassionate care, the Maiello Family would like to thank the cardiac unit at St. Peter's Hospital, and especially the staff of the Hospice Inn.
