Wilma (Glee) B. Canfield, 77, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Wilma is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Andrew (Andy) R. Canfield, and leaves behind her daughters, Michele Canfield (Michael DiGiuseppe), of Ballston Lake, NY; Lesley Canfield (John Chidsey), of Niskayuna, NY; and her son Brian Canfield of Gansevoort, NY. She is preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Jo Canfield.

Wilma was born on March 27, 1940 in Springville, PA, to parents Elizabeth A. and Ralph L. Button. She was raised on a dairy farm in Nicholson, PA, where she loved riding her horse Scout and helping with daily chores. She attended Springville Central School and Elk Lake High School, where she was a standout in basketball. She received her degree in business from The Ridley Business School in Binghamton, NY. Wilma was married on September 26, 1959 and moved to Albany, NY, where she began her business career while raising her family. She was employed by State Farm Insurance, Commercial Credit Co., Dun and Bradstreet, INA Insurance, Sears, Massachusetts Mutual Insurance, and 28 years with the Laberge Group. She enjoyed working with friends and co-workers for over 52 years.

Wilma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed antiquing and collecting 1950’s memorabilia, bird-watching, gardening, knitting, classic films and was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodger fan.

Wilma attended Springville Baptist Church and was a communicant of Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church.

Survivors also include her grandchildren Amanda Grandy (Michael), Elizabeth Duesing (Jacob), Andrew Roberts and Brian Stella, and her great-grandson Michael Grandy III. She is also survived by her sister Phyllis Hoover (Frank) of Dallas, PA; sister-in-law Carol Button of Nicholson, PA; and is preceded in death by her sister Carol Williams and brother Daryl Button. She is also survived by her brother-in-law David Canfield (Nina); sister-in-law Joan Palmer (Richard), and brother-in-law Martin (Marty) Canfield and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She also cherished her beloved pets Cinder, Junie and Roscoe.

Wilma’s family would like to thank Joan, Catherine, Mindy and Laura from the Eddy Visiting Nurses and the Town of Colonie EMS. A special thanks to Veronica, from St. Peter’s Hospital, ICU.

Calling hours will be at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Sunday, (Oct 22) from 4-7 p.m.

Funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Dr. Lisa Vander Wal (from Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church) at New Comer Cremations & Funerals on Monday, (Oct 23) at 10 AM.

A graveside service will immediately follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
