Rotterdam- JoAnn Schietromo went home peacefully on October 12, 2017 while in the care of The Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY. For over 30 years, JoAnn worked for NYS, most recently for Office of Children and Family Services. She took an early retirement to help care for her beloved granddaughter, Brea. She had many endearing qualities, most importantly having a positive energy that was contagious. It was that energy, that JoAnn used to help so many people through their life’s struggles and adversity. JoAnn enjoyed all forms of fitness, mainly yoga and bicycling. She also took great pleasure in taking rides on “Mr. Harley.” JoAnn had a passion for gardening, cooking, and baking. Her fig trees were her pride and joy. She loved to travel with her husband, Peter, the highlight being their trip to Italy. JoAnn will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 8 years, Peter Schietromo; her daughter, Terry (John) Fitzgerald; her granddaughter, Brea Fitzgerald; her brother, John (Lisa) Canfield; her aunt Mary O’Connor, several cousins and many friends. She will also be missed by her canine companion, Ms. Mollie. JoAnn was predeceased by her mother, Rose Canfield.
JoAnn’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice, AOW Associates and countless friends and family for their support and a special thanks to Carol Ramondo for her unwavering love and compassion.
A memorial service will be at 11 am on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in JoAnn’s name to a humane society of your choice.
