Latham – Virgil T. Wilty, 91, of Latham, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Virgil was born December 27, 1925 in Cobleskill and was the son of the late Virgil & Nellie Wilty. Virgil was predeceased by his wife of over 68 years, Greta G. Wilty.

Virgil was educated at the Rome School for the Deaf. He worked as a butcher at Tobin’s Packing Company for over 38 years. Virgil was a Latham resident since 1986 and previously lived in Schenectady for 26 years. He was a member of many clubs including: the Albany Silent Club, Abate Motorcycle Club, Electric City Riders Club, American Motorcycles Association Club, as well as a longtime supporter of the Hells Angels (and idolized Ralph “Sonny” Barger). He was always proud to show everyone he met his picture with Sonny. In addition to his passion for motorcycles, he also loved to fish and hunt. He spent many summers at Eel Weir State Park where he avidly fished for bass, pike, and musky.

Along with his wife, Virgil was predeceased by his grandson, Bradley T. Wilty and sister, Margaret Pulver.

Virgil is survived by his two children, Virgil “Jack” Wilty of Latham and Gertrude Molesky of Tennessee, his daughter-in-law Gail Wilty, his cherished grandchildren: Pauline, Gregory (Christina), Monica (Stephen), Derek (Jaclyn); his many other loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
