Schenectady- Gerald F. “Jerry” Ostrander, 69, passed away on October 6, 2017 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Niskayuna on August 24, 1948, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Greta R. (Stewart) Ostrander. Jerry graduated from Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School and SUNY Plattsburgh. He worked for over 30 years for the Golub Corporation in Rotterdam, retiring as the Budget Director. Jerry dedicated many hours as a volunteer at the Schenectady City Mission and served on the board of directors. He also volunteered his time to the Community Caregivers in Guilderland. Through the years Jerry volunteered with other organizations, Make-A-Wish, ROI and many others. Jerry was an active member of Open Arms Church in Rotterdam. He was a selfless, caring, generous man, who put everyone’s needs ahead of his own. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gail (Dunn) Ostrander; his sister Judy Stevens; his brother-in-law, Bill Dunn; his niece Tanya Stevens; his nephew, Tom Stevens; his great nephew, Jude Caton, several cousins and countless friends.
Memorial visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, October 10 at Open Arms Church, 2714 Curry Rd., Schenectady, NY 12303. A memorial service will be at 10 am on Wednesday, October 11 at the Church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jerry’s name to: The Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton St, Schenectady, NY 12305.
