SCHENECTADY-Dorothy “Dot” I. Gaudette, 88, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 19, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family.

Dot was born in Schenectady, NY on May 23, 1929 to the late Stephen and Isabelle Sobieski. In 1952 Dot married the love of her life, Robert J. Gaudette. Together they raised two daughters. She will be remembered for her love of volunteering, crafting, teaching, children, and animals. Dot spent many years volunteering at Ellis Hospital, Ladies of Charity, Birthright, Christ Child, Various Nursing Home, and she knitted hats and baby sweaters for Bellevue Women’s Hospital. She was a charter member and instructor of the Schenectady Dog Training Club. She and her husband were also members of the Knights of St. John where she was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Ladies Auxillary Drill Team, in Schenectady. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Schenectady where she was a Eucharistic minister, choir member, religious education teacher, and member of the parish council. She loved to travel and enjoyed spending summers at Sacandaga Lake and wintering in Florida so that she could always be swimming. She never missed any of her grandchildren's games or school concerts, or a televised Yankee game. Her passion in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was known by everyone as “Grandma.”

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert J. Gaudette.

She is the loving and devoted mother of Christine (Glenn) Barton of Duanesburg and Patricia (Edward) Durocher of Gansevoort. Dot is the cherished grandmother of Michelle (Billy) Lazar, Katherine Taylor, and Brian, Thomas and Stephen Durocher. She is the loving great-grandmother of Erika, Joseph, Tyler, and Kayla Lazar, and Vincent Taylor Jr. She is the great-great-grandmother of Alexander. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, on Sunday, August 27, 2017, from 2:00pm-5:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Josephs Church, 600 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12304, on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 9:00am. Burial will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery.
