In Memory Of
Harold L. Pazer
1937 - 2017

Harold L. Pazer, an Award Winning pioneer in the Field of Information Quality (IQ), passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 16, 2017, at The Teresian House Center, a care facility in Albany, NY. He was 80. He was a much beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather and teacher.

Harold “Harry” Pazer and colleague Donald P. Ballou were the recipients of an international award established in their names by MIT in 2007. The award honors the dissertation that best demonstrates significant contributions to the field of Information Quality. Its creation embodies Prof. Pazer’s life-long commitment to MIS (Management Information Systems) Programs for the Business World.

Born 1937 in Colfax Washington, to Marie Rose and Albert A. Pazer, Harry graduated from Washington State University in 1961 with Honors and a BA in Industrial Management. He received his MBA in Business Statistics from The University of Washington the following year. He taught at WSU through the spring of 1968, then joined the faculty of the Business School at the University of Albany (SUNY), where remained until his retirement in 1999. He co-authored the award-winning text Simulation in Business and Economics, published in 1969. His academic focus was the design of both the Undergraduate and Graduate MIS Curricula. He was instrumental in instituting a very significant field study component to these programs that allowed students direct experience of real world MIS design.

In his spare time, Harry enjoyed writing poetry, bicycling and family camping vacations. Among his most cherished activities was travel, both domestic and abroad, which he and his wife Barbara did often.

Barbara preceded him in death, passing in 2013. Harry is survived by five children; Lewis (Donna Ackerman Zaidenberg) Hodgins of Rocky Mount, N.C., Lisa (Bob Audi) Hodgins of Loudonville, N.Y., Linda Hodgins of Westford, Ma., Bradley Hodgins of Cheraw, S.C., Michelle Pazer of Los Angeles, Ca. and 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Simultaneous memorial services will be held in the East and West of the U.S., at a date to be determined. Contact the children for specific information. He will be greatly missed by all.
