Schenectady – John S. Muscanell, Sr., 97, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017 with his devoted and loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Fiorangelo and Maddalena Muscanell. John was the devoted husband to the late Marion B. Muscanell of 55 years. John & Marionhad 10 children; Judy Stafford (Doug, deceased), Sandy Friguletto (Pete), Lindy Cooley (Jim, deceased), John Muscanell, Jr. (Phyllis), Tom Muscanell (Joy), Ron Muscanell (Sandy), Ed Muscanell (Maureen),Dave Muscanell (Darlene), Pamela Leong (Paul), and Jeff Muscanell (Lee).

John is survived by his loving wife, Fran Muscanell of 16 years and her children; Dan Marcy, Tim Marcy(Christiane) and Elizabeth Splitgerber (Matt). He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren as well as 2 brothers, Fred Muscanell (Esther) and Bill Muscanell, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John is predeceased by his grandchild, Eddie Muscanell, Jr, his great grandchild, Austin Carroll, and 4 brothers; Vito Muscanell, Peter Muscanelli, Sr., Patsy Muscanell, and Lewis Muscanell.

John had an amazing life and meant so much to so many people. He retired from the Knolls AtomicPower Lab where he served in many different positions. Throughout his life, he took on additional jobs as needed, to care for his family which was his main priority in life. He taught his children how to be kind, caring, considerate, and giving to each other as well as to others. It was important to him that they knew how to work hard, be responsible, and most important to love and care for each other. The things he taught his children, he himself did. At the age of 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC’s) in order to help support his mom, dad and siblings.

He had a love for God and expressed it in how he lived, loved and cared about family. All 13 children had a unique place in his heart. Although he had 26 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, he made each one feel as if they were his favorite. Then when his 2 great great grandchildren arrived,he was “ecstatic.” He would keep asking “how many great great grandkids do I have?”

We are all comforted to know that this great husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and great-great-grandpa is now in the presence of Jesus, our Lord where he is enjoying the fruits of his labor.

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no viewing hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Since he had such a love for children, anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory
may do so to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or any charity of your choice.
