1923 - 2017

Filomena C. "Nonna" Plante, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at The Community Hospice of Albany at St. Peters, with her loving family by her side.

Filomena was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria Antonia Cioffi.

Filomena was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Italian American Community Center in Troy for many years.

She was a seamstress with Cluett Peabody and Company in Troy for over 25 years. Her talents as a seamstress included; sewing the buttons on President John F. Kennedys inauguration shirt; attaching the pocket on the first Joe Namath “Joe Cool” shirt and demonstrating a sewing machine to Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller.

She enjoyed creating dresses, including her daughter in laws wedding dress, the baptismal gowns for her grandchildren and the gowns for wedding parties.

She enjoyed cooking, the company of her friends and spending time in the Adirondacks.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers; Atilio, Angelo, Pasqualino, Antonio Cioffi and her sister, Theresa Alberelli.

Filomena is survived by her son, John (Donna) Plante. She is the adored "Nonna" of Kyle and Evan Plante. Filomena is also survived by her brothers Vittorio (Antonella) Cioffi of Montesarchio, Italy and Giovanni ( Maria Rosalia ) Cioffi of Milan, Italy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, on June 30 from 9:00a.m. to 10:30 a.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be June 30 at 10:30 a.m.at Blessed Sacrament. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Community Hospice Foundation 310 S. Manning Boulevard Albany, NY 12208 in Filomena's memory.
