(Suzan E. Perrott Smith Kimmel)

Suzan Kimmel, age 66, passed away after fighting ALS Disease for the past 18 months. She was born and raised in Albany, however she had resided in Cleveland, Ohio for thirty plus years. She returned to Albany in May 2016 to partner with family, and together they traveled the journey of combating the disease that ultimately took her life.

Sue was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth Sauer McElroy and Joseph Virginio Perrott; a sister, Jacqueline Kafka and a brother, Daniel Perrott. She is survived by her husband, Dwight Kimmel (Cleveland, Ohio); her three sons, Paul Smith (Starr), Massillon, OH; Mark Smith and Scott Smith (Mary), Schenectady; two granddaughters, Hailey Ballard-Smith and Chyla Smith, Schenectady; and an honorary granddaughter, Payton Perry-Radcliffe (Adrian, MI); siblings Dee Burkins (Barry), Albany; Sally Heck (Massillon, OH); Jay Perrott (Lee); Mitzi Leicht (Kenny); Toby Perrott (Larry); Carrie Rusinovich (John); Martine Perrott (BJ); Bill Perrott, all of Albany. She was extremely close to her nephews and niece, Todd Hudak, Rick Hudak, Danielle Hudak Speanburg (Kenny) and her great nieces, Sydney and Savannah Speanburg, all from Albany.

It was Sue’s wish to acknowledge her deep devotion to her dear friend of many years, Kendra Radcliffe (Adrian, MI) and the Coldwater Creek, “Creeker Girls”. She loved all of you from the bottom of her heart. Each of you know who you are.

The family extends their sincerest appreciation to the St. Peter’s Regional ALS Association staff; particularly Trish O’Keefe, and Dr. Roberta Miller. Your unending support, education and guidance through this journey has been invaluable. We are eternally grateful. To Kim Daly, the Hospice nurse, our sincere thank you for your guidance and support.

And finally, to the Eddy Village Green of Cohoes House #10 staff. There are not enough words that can adequately express how deeply our appreciation for the stellar care Sue received while she was entrusted to your care. Every staff member we encountered was warm, compassionate, giving, kind, supportive, extremely competent, and accommodating. This includes the management, the Social Workers, the business office, nursing staff and especially each Shabazz who attended to the daily, extremely labor intensive care that Sue’s medical needs demanded. The trust we had for the exemplary staff in knowing she was in good hands and well taken care of, was a huge relief for our family. As we approached the last few days of Sue’s life, the dignity of the vigil due to the peaceful private surroundings, the support, the care and kindnesses extended to us were bare none. It could not have been any better than what they gave. The depths of our gratitude, thankfulness, and appreciation know no bounds.

There will be a cremation and no public calling hours.

The family requests if one chooses, to send a donation in Sue’s name to:

the St. Peters Regional ALS Association at,
19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205.
