Troy- On Thursday morning May 11, 2017 at 3:39am our Lord and Savior stopped by mom’s house and called her by name: Maebell your mansion in my house has been prepared and your place is ready, your long white robe and crown await you, your work is done.

Maebell lovingly known as “Dolly”, “Ma”, and “Doll”. She was the daughter of the late Elijah and Mattie Simon. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County.

Maebell met and married Ezekiel Mauzon and from this union 8 children were born. They resided in Philadelphia, PA where she spent most of her young adulthood. She then relocated to Troy, NY in 1972, where she began doing what she loved most which was caring for others and where she became known as mom for Troy Housing Martin Luther King residents.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters Patricia Thomas, Troy, NY, D’Nita Mauzon, Columbia, SC; sons, Harry, Derrick, and Ezekiel all of Troy, NY, and Aundra of NJ. Loving daughter/nieces, Ernestine, Lorraine, and Blondell; 26 loving grandchildren; 42 great-grands; and 5 great-great-grands; sister Delorise (Oliver) Robinson; brothers, Willie (Marian) Hammett, Fred (Hattie) Hammett, and Odell Hammett of SC, and Bennett Hammett of Troy, NY; brother-in-law, Frank Mauzon; loving daughter-in-law, Tricinne Mauzon; and sister-in-law Sylinda Hammett all of Troy, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, and adopted granddaughter and care taker Erica Garrett.

Maebell was preceded by husband, Ezekiel, Sr. and daughters Cellestine and Jerline.

A home going celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11am at the Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 5th Avenue Troy, NY 12180. Viewing will be from 9am-11am at the church. Interment will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy, NY.
