Joan was born in East Greenbush and retired from Eden Park Nursing Home in Albany in 1995. Her greatest joy was her family. She prepared and hosted weekly dinners for her children and grandchildren. She was involved in the girl scouts, boy scouts and little league baseball. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, bird watching and baseball.
As a breast cancer survivor, she enrolled in various clinical research programs that tested new drugs to enhance the survival of other breast cancer patients.
She was predeceased by her parents Casper Platel and Lillian Barber; her son Martin Kenneth Klingbeil, brother Joseph Platel. She was the wife of Kenneth Klingbeil, mother of Kristina, Albert (Julie), John (Donna) and Kathleen Shafer (Todd). Grandmother of 9, Martin , Emily, Erin, Samuel, Jeremy, Molly, Rebecca, Patrick and Eileen .
Also survived by her sister Dorann Stagnitta, her brother William Platel(Marcia) and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 9am at St. Clare’s Catholic Church, 1947 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12205. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Clares. Interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
